Galway Bay fm newsroom – Concerns have been raised over a proposed traffic calming scheme for Clarinbridge.
The matter was discussed at this week’s meeting of the Athenry/Oranmore district.
Councillor Martina Kinane says the planned traffic calming scheme for Clarinbridge involves the removal of a filter lane which allows traffic to turn right to Stradbally North.
She says the junction has been the scene of a number of accidents over the years, and removing the filter lane would not be advisable.
Councillors Jim Cuddy, Frank Kearney and Malachy Noone agreed, and said the busy junction is dangerous – and the filter lane is needed to control traffic flow.
The planned scheme was the subject of a meeting at County Hall last week, where other concerns such as the provision of parking for local businesses were discussed.
The Athenry/Oranmore councillors will receive a presentation on the scheme at a closed meeting next month.
