Galway Bay fm newsroom – Several City Councillors have been accused of acting like ‘childish brats’ as this week’s meeting of the local authority spiralled out of control.

The monthly meeting of the local authority was marked from the get-go by raised voices, frequent interruptions, insults, and accusations.

As a war of words erupted over funding allocations for sheltered housing, Chief Executive Brendan McGrath could be seen to rub his temples, while Councillor Mairead Farrell simply put her head in her hands in frustration.

Councillor Pearse Flannery lost his patience – and said he was tired of listening to people shouting and acting like children.

He told his fellow Councillors there was work that had to be done and nobody seemed to want to do it, and they were instead behaving like brats.

He was supported by Mayor Frank Fahy, who said that certain people were deliberately trying to disrupt the meeting and score brownie points.

Councillor Flannery says the meeting had a very full agenda – but it ended up being somewhat unproductivE.
