Galway Bay fm newsroom – A short shut down of the traffic lights at the Quincentenary Bridge this afternoon is expected to be the final fix for the beleaguered structure
The traffic lights at the Newcastle end of the bridge have suffered a string of outages over the past two weeks due to damage caused by a road crash.
The crash destroyed the control box for the busy junction, and the resulting outage lasted several days and led to severe traffic disruption.
A replacement control unit was installed to return the lights to working order – but despite the fix, the lights continued to fail at random intervals over the past number of days.
However a ten minute shut down of the system at 2 this afternoon and some adjustments should be the final fix according to a city council spokesperson
The spokesperson told FYI Galway today’s job should restore the lights to full working order.
