Galway Bay fm newsroom – A number of jobs are to be lost in Tuam as Brinks Ireland is due to end its cash in transit operations by the end of July.

Over 200 jobs will go at the company’s bases nationwide – and it’s understood about 30 of those jobs will be at the security firms Tuam location.

Brinks Galway office, based at the Airglooney Industrial Estate in the town, was opened in October 2010.

The union SIPTU is condemning the decision, saying an agreement was finalised with management last month on a major restructuring deal which would have safeguarded the company’s future in Ireland.

Brendan Carr of SIPTU, says the company had signaled that the jobs were safe only a few weeks ago.
