Galway Bay fm newsroom – The N18 Galway to Gort road has fully re-opened to traffic at Labane after being closed for almost two months due to flooding.
The N18 has been closed at this location since Christmas eve after floodwater several feet deep crept across the main Galway to Gort route.
Earlier this month, Galway County Council re-opened the southbound lane of the road, but diversions remained in place at Labane for north-bound motorists.
This afternoon, Galway County Council fully re-opened the route and says that traffic management is now in place to assist road users.
It’s advising motorists that despite the re-opening of the N18 at Labane, caution should still be exercised traveling along the route.
In the meantime, the local authority is working with Transport Infrastructure Ireland to put a long-term solution in place to prevent the road from flooding again.
