Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Education Minister has paid tribute to GMIT for its contribution to the science and technology sectors.
Jan O’Sullivan is at the Dublin Road campus this lunchtime where she officially opened the college’s newly refurbished science and computing labs.
Almost 800 thousand euro was spent on the upgrades.
The outgoing minister is also meeting with the college President and chair of the governing body, and is being taken on a tour of the new facilities.
Minister O’Sullivan says GMIT and other Irish IT’s allow young people to access a variety of career opportunities.
Speaking to NewsBreak at GMIT this afternoon, Dr Seamus Lennon said the upgrades were needed due to constant increases in the number of students wishing to study science.
