Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Ballinasloe-born man campaigning to become the Seanad’s first overseas member has launched a postcard campaign to highlight the lack of voting rights afforded to Ireland’s emigrants.
London-based Barry Johnston is a member of the Votes for Irish Citizens Abroad Campaign and is hoping to be elected as a Senator on the NUI Galway panel.
The new postcard encourages the families of those living abroad to raise the issue with election candidates canvassing at their doors ahead of the General Election.
It also details how the European Commission has criticized Ireland over it’s policy of excluding overseas citizens from exercising a vote.
