Galway Bay fm newsroom – The County Council is being urged to immediately repair a road in Oranmore in danger of being claimed by the sea.
Fidelma Healy Eames says a 300 metre stretch of the Mweeloon Road in Maree is experiencing serious erosion.
She says the tide is sucking out the gravel that binds the protective rock facing and undermining the defences already in place.
The Independent Galway West Candidate says that due to the erosion, the road is already showing signs that it may soon give way.
She says that the County Council is aware of the issue, but says that further assessment needs to be carried out.
Fidelma Healy Eames says locals are afraid that if preventative works are not carried out immediately, the road will become impassable.
