Michael Kitt pays tribute to his constituents during his final Dáil speech

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway East TD Michael Kitt has given an emotional speech in the Dáil on what’s likely to mark his final day in the House after 41 years.

A member of the formidable Kitt political dynasty, Michael was first elected to the Dáil when he took his father’s seat following his death in 1975.

The outgoing leas Ceann Comhairle, from Castleblakeney in Ballinasloe, was born in Tuam in 1950.

The former primary school teacher and his wife Catherine have three sons and one daughter.

His distinguished political career saw him serve several portfolios as a Junior Minister and as opposition spokesperson , and he has been a member of a range of Dail committees.

Speaking in the Dáil this evening, 65 year old Michael Kitt paid tribute to his constituents and his Oireachtas colleagues.
